For over one hundred and forty one years the Knights of Columbus have been calling lay members of the Catholic Church to serve their church, their community and their country. We believe in fraternity, unity, charity, and patriotism as shared values among all our members. All adult (18+ yrs. old) male members of the Catholic faith who are in union with the Church are eligible to join the Knights. Our members are from all throughout the world, but share one common Catholic faith. We therefore pledge to serve those in need as our Lord Jesus Christ asks us to in the Bible that we hold as His living Word. We were founded by Blessed Father Michael McGivney in New Haven CT who foresaw a growing need to help those in need within his parish. Blessed Fr. McGivney was in 2020 beatified by the Catholic Church and continues to make his way towards Sainthood. He is recognized by Catholics and those of other denominations as a caring, compassionate and holy Parish Priest who served his community faithfully despite the challenges in it. The Knights of Columbus is a worldwide Catholic fraternal non-profit charitable organization with local Councils located throughout the world. The Knights is focused on supporting the Catholic faith, evangelization, performing good works of charity and mercy at both local, as well as, international levels. Local Councils are tasked with supporting the needs of their local communities and parishes. Our Council is named after a former pastor at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush NY, Monsignor James S. Conlan. You can read more about Monsignor Conlan here. We serve the faith communities of the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush NY and its mission church, Our Lady of the Valley, in Walker Valley NY. We perform various acts of charity and good works throughout the Pine Bush New York area including serving the secular communities of Crawford, Shawangunk, Montgomery, Wallkill, and Mamakating that make up our Parish community. Many of our good works extend into Southern Sullivan and Ulster Counties, as well as, Northern Orange County– areas that our Parish community members live and work in. We also support the Archdiocese of New York through various programs including vocations development. You can learn more about the history of the Knights here.
The Monsignor James S. Conlan Council# 5329 performs charitable works of mercy for all those in need regardless of faith though all of our work focuses on evangelizing and promoting Catholic faith values by reflecting the person of Jesus Christ in everything we do.
We serve by donating time at our local Parishes and their various ministries including lay ministry in the celebration of Mass, maintenance and janitorial work at the church, volunteer work at church functions and celebrations, youth religious education, and adult faith formation. We hold fundraisers throughout the year to support our various charity projects and charitable giving initiatives. We donate money to the needy, sick, poor and elderly. We provide food and clothing to those in need by partnering with other non-profit charity programs and organizations in the communities we serve including food pantries, school nutrition programs, and community outreach programs.
We volunteer at other charitable organizations and programs that align with our Catholic faith including food pantries, health clinics, and homeless shelters. We work with the Knights Supreme Council to donate to charity projects both in the United States and in other parts of the world. We work with our local Hudson Valley Chapter/Conference and the New York State Knights of Columbus State Council to help out other areas that surround us, as well as, in areas throughout New York State. And we offer volunteer work to those in need in our community, as well as, help out where we can with whoever comes to us in need. For a little Council we help a lot of people and serve a lot of ministries whether they be up the street from us or around the world.
